Fluency
It is important for children to have rapid recall of key number facts such as number bonds, doubles, addition & subtraction facts within twenty and multiplication/division facts up to 12x12. These facts can then be applied quickly and accurately in different situations.
Y1
- add and subtract number facts up to 20, becoming familiar with all the different combinations, such as: 1+9=10, 14+3=17, 16+4=20, etc.
Y2
- consolidate knowledge on number facts up to 20 and be able to learn them off by heart.
- know that number bonds to 20 are related to number facts up to 100, e.g. 4+6=10 is the same as 40+60=100.
- recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 multiplication tables
Y3
- recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 3, 4 and 8 multiplication tables
Y4
- recall multiplication and division facts for multiplication tables up to 12 × 12
To support the children with this:
- short fluency sessions are built into the week to recap key facts
- children in Y4 are supported to complete the national Multiplication Tables Check (MTC)
- all KS1 children have a login for NumBots to support rapid recall of key number facts
- all children in Y2-Y6 have a login for TTRS to support rapid recall of multiplication facts
We encourage children to regularly spend a few minutes at home playing the online games to improve fluency of key facts and support maths learning in school.
